How-to: 90s Topsy Pony

Remember growing up as a 90s girl, the Spice Girls were your favorite girl band, you had a mini backpack and those glitter butterfly clips from Claire's, and you had your mom order the Topsy Pony from the Delia's catalog.

Although the 90s Topsy Pony can now look pretty dated, it's simple to add just a few things to spice up your pony, like a Topsy "braid" and sexy, tousled waves and texture. You don't need the vintage tool to do it (it's fun if you have one though, bust it out girl). All you need is, positivity, and:

*Elastics

*Bobby pins

*Hairspray

*A comb

*Memories of going to the mall, wearing too much Love Spell, and getting a soft pretzel.

Pull a section from each side to the back and secure near crown with an elastic.

  1. After securing pony with an elastic, add some hairspray, grip the pony with one hand, and with the other hand gently tug and pull hair at the edges to add volume and texture.

  2. Create a "hole" in the middle of the pony above the elastic, and carefully thread the ponytail through and pull down, creating the "topsy". You can repeat 1-3 as many times as you want for a Topsy "braid", or just one or two ponytails, whatever you feel like.

  3. Grab a small section of the ponytail and tease, then wrap around the pony to hide the elastic.

  4. Spray the tail of the teased section with hairspray, and bobby pin into the elastic.

*Tips:

Leave hair out by your face for softness. You can add a soft curl to the pieces left out by your face if you want to. I always like to have a little bit of curl in my ponytail too. Texture and softness both help create a sexy, tousled pony. I usually use more hairspray on these looks than I do when my hair is simply down.
